Yasashiikuma (meaning Gentle Bear) is a small hobby kennel, dedicated to producing puppies of the highest possible
quality, primarily as companions, and secondly to compete in the show ring.
All of my dogs live with me in my home, or are fostered in loving homes in the area. I do not believe in raising
my dogs in a kennel environment. Puppies are raised underfoot in the kitchen.
My breeding program includes screening for as many genetic problems as possible, (Hips, eyes, hearts, Von Willebrands)
to ensure that puppies have the best chance to live long and healthy lives, and pedigrees are studies with longevity
as well as structure in mind.
As well, temperament is a main priority, as many of my dogs take part in pet therapy programs, as well as obedience
and conformation competition.
I do not breed frequently, and usually only produce one litter a year of Irish Wolfhounds and Cardigan Corgis.
In 2006 two litters of Cardigan Welsh Corgis are planned. Here is the litter announcement.
From the 14 litters I have produced (4 Irish Wolfhound and 10 Cardigan Corgi) I have produced 24 Champions
(11 Irish Wolfhound and 13 Cardigan Corgi), with others pointed and expecting to complete championships in the future.
I also own another three champions which I did not breed myself. In both breeds I have had dogs finish in the top 10 standings,
and the young male Irish Wolfhound on the main page finished as #2 Irish Wolfhound in 1994 (and #1 puppy) and #4 in 1995,
his nephew was #4 Irish Wolfhound in 1998 again as a puppy.
All puppies are sold on Canadian Kennel Club, Non-Breeding agreements, and with a written health guarantee. Handling is
available for Show Prospect puppies, and ongoing support and advice for living with your pet. Your connection with me
does not stop when you leave my home. Stud services are available only by private treaty.
I have been a member of the Canadian Cardigan Corgi Club and have held the positions of Secretary and President, and a
member of the Irish Wolfhound Club of Canada, the Cardigan Welsh Corgi Club of America and the Irish Wolfhound Club of
America, and a founding member of the Cardigan Welsh Corgi Fanciers of Ontario.
